Sophie Hedderwick was co-commissioned with me to produce a triptych installation for Broadway by New York Arts in 2007. The result was three pieces of art responding in real-time to a three-layered piece of music.
I wrote the piece for three layered percussion lines (played by Janey) and with the brilliant Forbes Masson providing the narration. Spot the beautiful wordless song at the end of the poetry. The piece was inspired by and dedicated to my first beautiful daughter, Freyja, on her birth.
The incredible poetry is from a ‘war poet’ who barely wrote about war – Edward Thomas. His poetry is deeply moving and evokes a lost English idyll, perhaps looking back to a time that is now past. This poem is about a journey and can, like many poems about forests, trees and sleep, be interpreted in different ways.
